Hoosier Illuminati

Welcome to The Hoosier Illuminati. Macintosh bigot, clothes horse, motorsports fanatic (as long as they turn right), Anglophile.

I did it.

I put in an order for an HP Mini-Note.  My account rep says not to expect it any before the end of April because HP apparently vastly misunderestimated the demand.

That’s OK because I have a couple of things I need to attend to in the meantime.  For example, I have an external CD burner, but a ton of software comes on DVD these days, so I need to come up with an external DVD drive.  I also need to figure out some decent DVD software since I’ll have to be able to rip DVDs to it.  I’ve always used Nero, but Ahead has bloated Nero beyond all reason.  Roxio or a couple of nice freeware apps are on my list.  I need to find some particularly light weight anti-virus / anti-spam / anti-spyware software.  I normally use Trend, but I suspect it’s a little heavier than I’ll want for this machine.  NOD32 and Kaspersky are on my short list.  I use and love Mac Journal, and I’m not sure I’d have done this if Mariner hadn’t just come out with a Windows version.  Everything else I’ve already got, Word 2007, Outlook 2007, OneNote and Firefox will be about 95% of the apps I’ll use on a daily basis.  Waterfield Designs already has come out with one of their terrific sleeves for the Mini-Note so I can toss it in my briefcase without worry.

I still love my Macs and I still think they’re far superior platforms, but Apple steadfastly refuses to come out with a notebook in the form factor I want.  Buying a Mini-Note makes it an absolute certainty that they’ll announce one Any Day Now.
