The latest thing the Muslims are offended by is…

...The Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in NYC.

No, I’m serious.  Really.

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reports that the glass Cube Apple erected earlier this year on New York’s tony Fifth Ave, dubbed Apple Mecca by many of the Mac faithful, is offensive to Muslims due to the Cube’s resemblance to the Ka’bah (aka The House of Abraham). The report goes on to say that there’s a genuine belief that the design of the store was specifically meant to provoke Muslims and cites other contributing insults such Apple housing “bars” that sell alcoholic beverages within the Cube structure and it being open 24/7.

The “Ka’bah”.

Well, sure, the resemblance is obvious.  They’re both cubes, and we all know the Muslims have the patent on all things cube-shaped.  rolleyes  I can’t imagine a more blatant insult to Islam.

I think the Muslims might want to actually VISIT an Apple Store and check out the little fact that the Genius Bars dispense not alcohol but information, but hey, when has truth ever been a factor in what sets off our friends in the Religion of Peace Pieces?

Muslims, grow up.  Not everything is about you.

The first report I saw on this was at LGF, and it showed a construction photo of the store sheathed in some sort of black cover.  It did bear some resemblance to the Ka’aba at that point.  Not that that’s a crime—f’em if they can’t take a joke.  Haven’t they ever heard of “black boxes”?  smile

Anyway, I think that was the photo the Islamofascists Muslims were upset about.

Well, if that’s the case maybe the Muslims ought to at least do Apple the courtesy of waiting until the damn thing was finished before they complain about it, but it’s still just a black box.  They’ve probably been pissed at The Steve for a couple of decades now because of the NeXTcube.

The funny thing is that they were complaining about a picture that bears no resemblance to the current reality.  If they’d bitched about it during construction, I’d still tell them to take flying leap, but it would be more understandable.

But they’re playing the old picture as if it were the way the thing looks today, which makes them even more ridiculous.

I’d hate to be standing anywhere near that thing when they blow it up.

The latest news is that they’re really not offended by the Store, but they ARE offended that people are so totally willing to believe Muslims are easily offended.

Recently, the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) stated that an anonymous Islamic website in the Middle East urged Muslims to show their outrage at the Apple Store in New York City, which built a pavilion coincidentally resembling the cube shape of the Ka’aba, the ancient structure in Mecca towards which all Muslims pray (the actual structure is glass, though MEMRI referenced a black plywood cover during construction),” Shahed Amanullah reports for alt.muslim.

“Predictibly, the post brought out cries of indignation from people upset that Muslims would be offended (yet again). But missing in the report was the name of the purported website, why it was considered authoritative on the matter, or any actual offended Muslims (our straw poll garnered a collective shrug, along with much respect for Steve Jobs, himself the son of an Arab). It’s not the first time the controversial organisation has selectively framed an issue to show Muslims in a less than positive light, nor is it the only instance of pre-emptive outrage attributed to Muslims in recent months,” Amanullah reports.

Amanullah reports, “In the case of the (selective) MEMRI account, where at least one Muslim did (allegedly) complain about the NYC Apple Store, it seems that whenever a lone Muslim says something incendiary - even when it is an anonymous person hiding in a cave somewhere - his words are taken to somehow represent all Muslims. When whole groups of Muslims issue condemnations of terrorism, they are treated as “brave but isolated cries”, or worse, ignored. In MEMRI’s case, the mainstream media has already begun reporting it as fact. When it comes to Muslims, everyone loves a rumor.”

Unfortunately for them, the rumors all too often turn out to be the truth.
